The Filthy Tongues record theme for "New Town Killers"
I was delighted to hear recently that The Filthy Tongues who played Read the Fanzine back in December 2007 have recorded the theme music to a new Scottish Film called "New Town Killers" - dubbed the new Trainspotting.
Whilst any film that proclaims to be the new "whatever" sometimes turns out to be bargain bin reject fodder, this one actually looks the business and is directed by Richard Jobson ex-frontman of Dunfermline band The Skids.
The single is a cracker and has already been played by Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music. The bands previous incarnations, Goodbye Mr Mackenzie and Angelfish never gained the level of recognition they so richly deserved. Lets hope that this film emulates the success of Trainspotting and brings the Tongues to a wider audience.
What is Read The Fanzine?
Read the Fanzine is a DIY live music club night which was originated in London by two mates who came up with the idea after one too many drinks
In this website I document how the night got started, review each night so far, and finally talk about what we intend to do in the future, not to mention what some of the bands that played are up to now
One of the hardest things I found about putting on live gigs was getting information since most promoters like to keep their cards close to their chest.
This website not only documents the Read the Fanzine and Keep your ears Peeled nights as a reminder to those who were lucky enough to be in attendance, but can also be useful as a resource to those thinking of doing their own nights as I describe some of the pitfalls we ran into and the highs and lows.
